Why do I have pirate titles? I don’t know. Here’s a little art experiment and some photos from a rainy day.

Let me explain the paint/marker piece. Well, I thought that instead of a spectrum of colors…a spectrum of words would be cool. So all the marker and pen you see in the middle, well they’re all short stories, kind of. Dialogue or just random sentences and after seeing Alex Masket’s work, I decided to play around with stencils…so there you go.

As for the photos, well I’m just trying some things out. Why is there a lampshade on my head? Well, there just is. I thought it’d look cool. So…there you go. I like black and white photos because I’m not the best with colors (colorblindness FTW!) so getting cool photos and messing with exposure settings and aperture settings make me happy.

Steps To A Happy Life

Be. This is necessary. Chances of it happening are slim, but you can go nowhere without it. Later on, this thought will gladden you. “You sir, out of all the other spermies in the community, were the one that really made it.” This optimistic idea of overcoming Scrotum-Mountain is dashed, however, when you learn that you are already a sinner. “You see, son, you weren’t…expected.” Damn you for ruining lives.

Later you see the light. Of photogenic phospho-fluorescence. The whole idea of life will come later. It’s okay though, you’re already learning: 3 months from now, you won’t even get a fucking birthday. You know, the one that you deserve? That one. You’ll get it 12 months from now (maybe). It’s an important lesson: people only care when you’re making a fuss.

Fuss you do. Or so you’re told. You can’t recall much of this time. Maybe it’s the whole “I’m not even a year old, I shouldn’t be able to recall this without a grocery-list” concept, or maybe dad knocked you up the head too much while mom was gone.

While mom was sleeping with that other guy. Well, maybe it was just one. The headlight patterns changed, and with it the shadows that dance across your face when you were up(down)graded from the crib to the A/C vent by the window, but maybe he was just very wealthy and got lots of cars. That might be it. Money can obtain a lot, then.

School starts. It rules. “Draw a picture of your home.” Upon turning in a (mildly; art is hard) dilapidated representation of the brick-built building and scattered wild emus, your teacher smiles with her mouth-muscles and gasps with her eyes. “Your home isn’t school, dear. Draw where you live.” You’re getting smarter: bastards steal your happiness from the moment it is conceived. Sorta like children, yeah?

The Dogwood Sonnet

To be a dogwood, growing up so proud;
With endless abandon I compared me.
“As but a fern, I lack flowers and seeds –
His design trumps mine in my darkness shroud.”
But then you, dogwood, were always so proud,
Heights of splendor reached, perceived from the sea!
How’d it feel when he made you but a tree?
Sacrificed for another’s death, you bowed.

Punished for your pride, I looked to in hope,
“Dogwood, learn he will, his pride to abate.”
But he didn’t because He didn’t let
His works, His kingdom, ever try to cope.

But a fern, never touched, I cannot sate
Man’s appetite for such eternal debt.
